29 is a big number. Not in the numerical sense perhaps, but when you're talkin' bikes, a 29" wheel is huge.
If you're not familiar with the "twenty-niner" concept, it refers to mountain bikes that are built to accomodate a larger diameter (29") wheel. There are a variety of reasons for this. First, the larger wheel creates stabilty and is more efficient than a traditional 26" wheel. The larger footprint of the wheel means that more of the tire is always in contact with with the dirt. And most importanty, the larger wheel allows the bike to maintain momentum over rough terrain.
Here at Rapid Creek, we're committed to big-wheel bikes. With offerings from Niner, Marin, and KHS we have a twenty-niner to fit all riding styles and budgets. Take a look at the following bikes to get a feel for the variety, and check back here a bit later for some further dicussion on 29ers and some ride shots of 29ers doing their stuff on the local Palisade trails.
